Why agents search for Excel to insurance CRM
Most Indian agency books still start in Excel. It is flexible, offline-friendly, and familiar. It is also where renewals die: filters forgotten, phone columns formatted as numbers, due dates stored as text, and three versions of the same file on three laptops. Searching for Excel to insurance CRM usually means "I want the data I already have, in a system that sorts renewals and lets me message from my phone."
InsuredBoard is that destination with an honest import rule. CSV import is on paid plans. The 7-day trial lets you add up to 75 active policies manually so you can feel the renewal board and WhatsApp flow before you migrate hundreds of rows. That order matters. Importing a dirty sheet into a tool you have never used creates two problems at once.
There is no OCR that reads policy PDFs into spreadsheet columns. If another vendor sells scan-first migration, compare that job separately. Here the path is structured data you already maintain — cleaned, exported, imported.
What breaks during spreadsheet migrations
Date formats differ across regions and Excel settings. Phones lose leading zeros. Client names duplicate when spelling drifts. Policies for the same person sit on different rows without a shared key. Before you export CSV, pick one phone format, one date format, and one rule for household members. Fix the worst duplicates in Excel — it is still faster there for bulk find-and-replace.
Decide what a row means. One row per policy is usually right for insurance. One row per client forces you to jam multiple due dates into one cell, which imports poorly. Insurer name, policy type, premium, and due date should be explicit columns. Notes can carry registration numbers or dependant names until you refine fields later.
After import on a paid plan, spot-check overdue policies first. If the board looks wrong, the dates were wrong in the sheet. Fix a sample, re-import or edit, then continue. Do not message the whole book until the top of the renewal list looks believable.
What this page is not
- Not free forever CSV import on the trial.
- Not OCR or Vahan lookup to rebuild your sheet from photos.
- Not bulk WhatsApp Business API after import.
- Not a live commission ledger imported from insurer statements.
Trial first, import second
During the trial, add ten to twenty real clients by hand. Attach the policies that are due soon. Work the board for a few mornings. Send a few pre-filled WhatsApp chats from your phone. If that habit feels right, upgrade and import. If it does not, you have not wasted a weekend cleaning CSV for a product you will not use.
Starter at ₹199/mo unlocks CSV within plan limits, with room for seats as you grow. Pro and Business raise caps for larger books. All INR. See pricing before you promise the whole agency a migrate date.
Life after Excel
The win is not "data in a database." The win is opening overdue and due today without re-applying filters, then messaging without copying cells into WhatsApp. Keep Excel as an export backup if you want — but stop using it as the daily operating system for renewals.
Team workflows improve when everyone stops emailing "final_v7.xlsx." Paid seats give agents their clients and owners a wider view. Documents move onto the client record instead of a shared drive folder named by month. Commission still comes from insurer portals; estimate with the commission calculator when you need a number — it is not a ledger inside the CRM.
Who this migration page is for
Solo agents with one master workbook. Small agencies with conflicting copies. POSP sellers whose mixed book outgrew tabs named by insurer. It is not for teams that only need a one-time dump into a data warehouse, and not for buyers who refuse paid import and expect free bulk upload forever.
Ready to map columns? Read CSV import for the feature detail, then start the trial and schedule the paid migrate after the habit sticks.
